Port Burwell

The Marine Museum & Lighthouse

Port Burwell Marine Museum The Port Burwell Lighthouse was constructed in the 1840’s and is one of the oldest and most historic marine sites on Lake Erie. The lighthouse was restored in 1986 by a team of Mennonite craftsman from the Aylmer area, and currently is a popular tourist attraction and is home to the tourist information centre. For the adventurous type, take your turn in climbing to the top of the lighthouse for an unforgettable panoramic view of the village and harbour front. THE LIGHTHOUSE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR REPAIRS

The museum is directly across from the lighthouse.  Port Burwell's rich marine and local history comes to life through displays featuring lighthouse lenses, artifacts recovered from Lake Erie shipwrecks, ship models, and an assortment of artifacts and photographs. Check out the various anchors, foghorns, and other nautical items displayed. Watch the restoration of the Wheelhouse located in front of the museum.  The museum and lighthouse are open daily from Victoria Day Weekend through to Labour Day.  Special exhibits and children’s activities are held throughout the summer months.  You can take part in these activities by calling the museum directly for details, costs and registrations.  Off-season Tours may be available by calling the Municipal Office at 519-866-5521

Port Burwell Provincial Park

The Port Burwell Provincial Park in Canada's "Deep South" is one of the best for witnessing spring migrations of songbirds and fall migrations of raptors, monarch butterflies, blue jays, and dragonflies. Steep bluffs shelter stands of oak and maple. Between bluffs and warm water's edge are ribbons of dunes, beach savanna, and meadow. Port Burwell Provincial Park offers hiking trails, campgrounds with all the amenities, a day use beach, playground equipment, a boat launch area and equipment rentals.
