Old Imperial Farmers' Market in Aylmer: A Year-Round Celebration of Community

The Old Imperial Farmers’ Market in Aylmer serves as a hub for celebrating, supporting, and showcasing the best the community has to offer. With a mission to create a sustainable, year-round market, it brings together local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs every Saturday from 8 AM to 3 PM to share their fresh produce, artisanal goods, and baked treats.

The Story
The market is named after the Imperial Leaf Tobacco Co., which originally operated in the building starting in 1946. As a key employer in Aylmer, Imperial Tobacco played a vital role in Canada’s economy, exporting over 20 tons of tobacco annually.

In 2005, the company restructured and relocated its operations to Mexico, leaving many in Elgin County unemployed. After years of sitting vacant, the building was purchased by local businessmen in 2010 and transformed into the Elgin Innovation Centre, bringing new opportunities and energy to the region.
