Celebrating your Bday in Elgin

Welcome to the next edition of "Elginsider: The Inside Scoop," where each week a staff member from Elgin County Economic Development & Tourism will share the inside scoop on life in Elgin County!

Today I have come to the realization that I am officially closer to 30 than 25 and I don’t know what to think of that. To help ease this thought, I will celebrate my 27th year with friends, family, and of course, FOOD!

When your birthday falls on a Wednesday, it is socially acceptable not to choose one specific weekend, but to celebrate all week long, right?! Well, that’s what I’ve decided anyways…

With many delicious dining establishments, how does one choose? With Mother Nature gracing us with warm weather for the last few days of summer, outdoor patios are definitely the way to go. My co-worker, Megan Shannon, shared some tips on local patios a few weeks ago, so I won’t dabble on too long. Click here to read her Elginsider.

If local food is your thing, we have several restaurants that are a part of our Savour Elgin program for you to try. From fine dining to cafes, tearooms to ice cream parlours, there is something to please every palate, click here to see some of the restaurants. This is the perfect time of year to dine at a local restaurant because the bounty of fresh produce is at its peak; expect a colourful plate of fresh fruit and veggies!

For a little more adventure, Great Lakes Farms offers pick your own apples in their orchard. With 22 different varieties of apples to pick, fill your bushel basket with all of your favourite tart and sweet varieties.

A trip to Cy’s Lanes & Lounge is a great way to celebrate with friends. Their bowling alley is the perfect place to show off your skills. After you strike out, there’s nothing quite like their famous wings and of course washing them down with your favourite beverage.

As Elgin County's Marketing and Communications Coordinator, I would be remiss if I didn't mention sharing your photos with us. When posting your pictures on Instagram, use the hashtag #ElginCounty for your chance to have them featured. We also have a photo contest running until September, where your photo could be chosen to be on the cover of our 2020 Elgin County Tourism Guide. More information about this contest, "We've Got You Covered" can be found here.

As always, thanks for reading,
