The historic Town of Aylmer was incorporated in 1872 and grew as a major agricultural and dairy centre without the benefit ofindustrial or railway economic stimulation. It has an abundance of heritage homes along Mainstreet and in the immediate town core portraying the wealth and values of early Ontario.

Indulge yourself with a stroll around Aylmer. Walk downtown to visit a shopping mecca of quaint boutiques, antique shops, severalfragrant bakeries and unique gift and souvenir stores.Visit the Aylmer Farm Market on Tuesdays. You will immediately be transformed into a turn-of-the-century scene with horses andbuggies. The Amish sect do not use electricity and shun anymechanized devices.

Reminiscent of the “horse and buggy era”, the Amish are but one of the manyunique citizens inthe Aylmer area. Mennonitesmigrated to thearea in the early50s and 60s fromMexico wherethey experienced economic stress after their mass migration fromManitoba in the 1800s.

Both populations bring quaintness to theTown bestowing their strong values on the living heritage of Aylmer.Whatever your whimsy might be, let it be quelled amid the aestheticwonders and bristling fragrances found along your nostalgic journeythrough Aylmer, Ontario.

Come for a day, a week, a month or a year, renewing your spirit in a land seemingly suspended in time. Let your journey begin here.
