Sleepless in our City

Studies show that 42% of renters in Elgin-St. Thomas spend more than 30% of the household income on shelter costs. This means that sometimes a family has to make a choice between a roof over their heads or food on the table.

Spending the night in your car can make for one of the longest nights of your life. It’s uncomfortable, it’s difficult and it’s cold, but for some of our neighbours, it's an everyday reality. In an effort to increase awareness of poverty and homelessness in St Thomas and Elgin County, Joe Preston and Tim Smart are going to spend a night sleeping in their cars. They need your help.

United Way Elgin - St. Thomas works to reduce poverty and support those experiencing it. By making a donation to Sleepless in our City you will help increase awareness of the complexity of poverty in our community and change lives. Together, we can move people from poverty to possibility.
