Hiking and Cycling in Elgin County
Cycle Historic Elgin
by Paul Baldwin
In the Spring 2001, an exciting new cycling guide will be available at Tourist Information outlets in St. Thomas, Elgin and London. It will feature eight annotated bike routes about St. Thomas, Aylmer, and Elgin with accompanying local history essays. With sponsorship from Healthy at Heart Elgin and support from the St. Thomas-Elgin Tourist Association , retired Elgin educator, Paul Baldwin, has combined his interest in the History of Elgin and his enjoyment of cycling and published what he hopes will be eight healthy, worthwhile experiences.
This ride highlights the life and accomplishments of Mitch Hepburn. It is not one of the eight rides developed in the booklet but it is a sample of the evidence of local history and the ideal cycle routes in our midst. The booklet, Bike Historic Elgin features: Col. Thomas Talbot, Malahide, and Port Bruce, St. Thomas On Track, and our Amish neighbours. It is available at no charge.
