Canada Southern Railway Station

Travel back to a time when railway ruled St. Thomas, with a visit to the historic Canada Southern Railway Station. This large and impressive structure is the only existing railway station in Ontario built in the Italianate style and is protected through an easement with the Ontario Heritage Trust. The Station was built between 1871 and 1873, to serve as the headquarters for the Canada Southern Railway. In 1883, the Michigan Central Railroad assumed operations.

In recent decades, the station fell into disrepair, but a current campaign is underway to restore this magnificent and historic venue to its former grandeur.
